THE TEEN SUMMER READING CLUB IS QUICKLY COMING TO A CLOSE.....

Attention all Teen Summer Reading Club participants,

Don't forget that next Friday, August 7th is the last day of the reading club. So make sure you bring your "bingo boards" in so I can check them and give you your prizes.

Also, I need to have at least one "bingo board" on file at the library, so you can be eligible for the "BIGGER" prize drawing. I have my weekly schedule posted on my desk of when I'll be available to check your boards. I do have a busy programming schedule this week and next, so I apologize if I am unavailable when you stop by. If that should happen, please feel free to leave your boards on my desk and I will check them as soon as I possibly can. If you need or want to leave them because you don't think you'll be able to stop by again before August 7th, that is perfectly fine. You will still be eligible for the "BIGGER" prize drawing, and then you can pick your smaller earned prizes (for "bingo") at your earliest convenience.

Happy Reading!!!!

Did Anyone Say "Let's Cook?!?!"

Teens had fun working together at the "Let's Cook!" program on Monday, July 20th and created the delicious dessert "Microwave Bread Pudding." A lot of people actually like to eat this dish with their breakfast as well. Here's the recipe we used:

"MICROWAVE BREAD PUDDING"

Cooking time: 12 minutes
Servings: 8

Ingredients:

6 slices White Bread, torn into small pieces
2 cups Milk
1 Tbsp. Butter
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/4 cups Sugar
1/4 tsp. Salt
1/2 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Vanilla
1/2 cup Raisins

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Place the “torn” pieces of bread in a 9 inch (approximate) baking dish.
2. Beat the eggs in a separate small mixing bowl for about two minutes using a fork or whisk.
3. Heat the milk and butter in a medium sized mixing bowl on high power for 3 minutes.
4. Stir a small amount of the hot milk and melted butter into the bowl with the beaten eggs.
5. Pour the egg mixture into the bowl with the remaining hot milk and melted butter.
6. Add the sugar, salt, cinnamon, vanilla and raisins.
7. Pour the mixture over the bread pieces.
8. Cook on high power for 7 minutes. Cook 2 minutes longer, if the center is not firm.

TOPPING FOR BREAD PUDDING:
“Caramel” or “Chocolate” Topping

Here Are Some Cool Activities That Teens Have Had Fun At!!!.....

These are some of the FABULOUS creations teens made when they came to the
"Wacky For Wikki Stix!" program on Monday, July 6th. They'll be on display over in the Young Adult section until the end of August. More cool designs can be found in the display case near the Young Adult section and Reference Desk so make sure to stop by and check them out.

Teens who participated in the "Puzzle Painting" program on Wednesday, July 8th re-created a famous painting. Our inspiration was a beautiful painting by Claude Monet called"Water Lilies" which he painted in 1916. Each teen got a "piece" of the painting and was asked to interpret it by drawing and painting it on individual sheets. Once the pieces had dried overnight, Denise J. the Young Adult Librarian proudly assembled them in the correct order. The finished painting will be on display in the Young Adult section until the end of August.

Title: Island of the Blue Dolphins
Author: Scott O'Dell

This book kept me interested till the end. It has a sad beginning but you learn to enjoy it by the end. The girl, Karana has a hard life throughout the book but she seems to always pull through. This is a great book for nature lovers and I hope a lot of people will read this book soon
.

Title: Acceleration

Author: Graham McNamee

Review: Acceleration was a great book. It features a seventeen-year old boy named Duncan teaming up with two of his friends, Vinny and Wayne to catch a serial killer. This book has some slow parts, but when you get into it. You can't put it down. Although the author places in random characters throughout the book, the plot is riveting. I would definitely recommend it to a friend and I'm sure it would please a crowd of detectives.

Title: The 39 Clues: The Sword Thief (Book 3: The 39 Clue Series)

Author: Peter Lerangis

Review: This book was too short and a bit of a let down, compared to the other stories in this series. The writing style was poor, and made the action hard to follow. The series is rather exciting, and although this book was poor, I read it in one day!!! The books keep intriguing you for more, and I will definitely finish this series. Although I enjoy the tale, I feel anger and want justice to be served, when the Cahill duo is constantly backstabbed, by relatives.

I would not read more by this author, his style was poor, but I will continue with this series!!!!

Title: The 39 Clues: One False Note (Book 2: The 39 Clue Series)

Author: Gordon Korman

Review: This book continues the series nicely. I was a little wary of it, because it was a different author, but although the style is a little different, the characters, are still loveable and entertaining. This book explores deeper into the Cahill's history, and allows for a more promising series. The book could have used a little more action, and adventure. I enjoy reading the series, and can't wait for more.

Title: The 39 Clues: One False Note

Author: Gordon Korman

Review: One False Note is the second book in a series of books titled The 39 Clues. One False Note is a really great book written by Gordon Korman. In this book Amy and Dan have to crack the second clue, on Mozart. To save money, they are on a clunky train headed for Vienna. Dan's amazing memory turns out to be essential. Amy's willingness to put up with her brother keeps the peace, and au pair, Nellie Gomez, watches over them. Amy and Dan have to face their relatives on a ride of their life. They have to outsmart all of their relatives in order to get the next clue. To find out what happens in the book, you have to read it. I definitely recommend it.

I found this book similar to: The series.

Title: The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones

Author: Rick Riordan

Review: The Maze of Bones is the first book in a series of books titled The 39 Clues. The Maze of Bones is a really great book written by Rick Riordan. It tells the story of two average kids, whose life gets turned upside down. It all starts when Amy and Dan Cahill have to attend their beloved grandmother's funeral. Their grandmother's name was Grace. Amy and Dan used to visit their grandmother's house every summer. When they go to the funeral, they realize just how big their family is. Yet only special Cahills were invited to the funeral. In Grace's last will and testament, she issues this challenge: For your inheritance, you may have the first of thirty-nine clues. The first team to successfully put together the clues, which are scattered across the world, will discover the secret of Cahill power and become the richest, most important people in history. Or you may take one million dollars in cash right now and walk away. Amy and Dan decide to take the challenge, along with many other Cahills. Others just take the million dollars, and leave. This first clue, takes Amy and Dan on a wild rocking journey all around the world. To find out more about the book, you have to read it. I definitely recommend this book. You should read the other books in the series as well.

Title: Life as We Knew It

Author: Susan Beth Pfeffer

Review: Life as We Knew It is a book by Susan Beth Preffer. This book is written in diary form as if we were Miranda living through her eyes. In the beginning of the story, Miranda is portrayed as an average high school girl living a normal life. Then something happens that changes every one's lives forever, a meteorite hits the moon. At first everyone thought it was cool, and they gave homework assignments to Miranda about the moon. Then they realized that something had gone horribly awry. The astronauts had miscalculated the mass of the moon, so the moon was knocked closer to the Earth. When this happened, everyone was so scared and they were screaming, it was as if the world had come to an end. A month later, tsunamis wipe out the coasts, earthquakes rock the continents, and volcanic ash blocks out the sun. How will anyone survive this? No one knows, so you should read this book to find out if Miranda and her family makes it alive, or not. Miranda's family might split up, the only way you can find out, is by reading this 337 pages of non-stop action. I definitely recommend this book. You won't be able to put it down until you finish it.

Title: The Last Olympian

Author: Rick Riordan

Review: The Last Olympian is an amazing book, which is written by Rick Riordan. It is the fifth book in the series of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. This is the last and most memorable book in the whole series in my opinion. The basic premise of the book is that this boy named Percy Jackson is a half-blood which means one of his parents is human and the other is a Greek God. In this book, all half-bloods have to prepare for abattle against the Titans, knowing the odds of victory are grim. Kronos, the evil Titan lord's, army is stronger than ever, and with every God and half-blood he recruits, the evil Titan's power only grows. So Percy, the other half-bloods, and all the Gods, who go to camp with him at half-blood camp, have to battle the Titan the strongest Titan there is, Typhon. While all the Gods go after Typhon, it leaves New York City unguarded. New York City is where Mount Olympus is located. So all the half-bloods have to work together in order to stop Kronos! In which it is stated in the first book, the first child of the big three (the top three Gods-which are Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades) to reach the age of 16, shall be the bearer of a great prophecy. So Percy has to decide whether to save his friends, or save the Gods. It's a huge decision for Percy, and it's 381 pages of action-packed adventure. I definitely recommend this book, but you should probably read the first couple of books first before you read this one.

Title: TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY

Author: Jay Asher

Review: TH1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY was interesting and suspenseful. In this novel, a student named Clay Jensen finds a package containing cassette tapes explaining thirteen reasons of Hannah Baker's suicide. While listening to the tapes, Clay visits certain places in the town that Hannah mentions in the tapes and experiences how Hannah felt and her pain. This novel shows how one's decisions affect the actions of others and how others think. It also teaches people to think before they act or speak because it can affect someone's life more than you think.

Title: TTFN (Ta Ta for Now)

Author: Lauren Myracle

Review: This is the sequel to the fabulous book TTYL (Talk to You Later). This has the second adventure of the winsome-threesome. Angela, Maddie, and Zoe are back together, or so they thought. Angela's parents have some bad news for Angela, but you will have to find out what it is by reading. While Angela is gone somewhere Zoe gets a boyfriend after her encounter with Mr. H, her old teacher. Zoe becomes Doug's girlfriend when they connect at a job, but Angela doesn't know and starts to move in on Doug. When Maddie has to tell Angela the news she (Angela) is furious with Zoe. But at the end they are the winsome-threesome again and that is what I love about this book. When 3 best friends always come back together and become the closest you will know. I love how the threesome always pull each other back. Over all this was a very good book and I can't wait to finish reading the last book L8r, G8r (Later Gater).

I found this book similar to: This reminds of no other books except the sequels because of the format. It is a story written in IM format.

Title: Kidnapped: The Abduction

Author: Gordon Korman

Review: The Falconer family has gone through a lot of trouble. Jail for the parents, and the 2 children, 11 year old Margaret, called Meg, and 15 year old Aidan, were chased 7,000 miles across the country! They had been fugitives! But that was all over now. Or so they thought. When Aidan and Meg were walking home from school one day, a speeding white extermination van pulled up beside them. 3 people were in the van. A big, burly man wearing a black Spider Man mask, a young man wearing a Mickey Mouse mask, and a woman wearing a Tiger Woods mask. They picked up poor, young, helpless Meg. She tried to fight, but they immediately put her out cold with horrible fumes. Then they went for Aidan. He fought with all his life for Meg, and himself. But the kidnappers left him and sped away in the van. Meg was gone, and there was nothing he could do about it.

I found this book similar to: This book reminded me of no other book I have ever read in my whole entire life. If I had to, I would read this book over and over again until I die. That's how good it is. I recommend it to anyone who can handle kidnapping.

Title: Palace Circle

Author: Rebecca Dean

Review: To be very honest, this was one of the best books I've ever read. The day I began to read it, I was 187 pages into the book already. It reflects a woman who marries a man who only uses her for the heir to his throne, but lucky she finds love with another man... Personally, I can't explain how incredible the writing of Dean was reflected in this book. For this book, I refer this to high schoolers because they'd be able to handle certain content maturally and they'd enjoy it a lot more than younger teens.

Title: Perfect Chemistry

Author: Simone Elkeles

Review: At first glance, this book seems like the book version of a "chick-flick"; where two people from completely different worlds fight against the rest of the world to be together. Actually, it is exactly that, but it's also so much more. This book got slightly annoying at some parts because of the constant point of view shifts, but overall, it was a good book. After you read it, you grow quite obsessed, but after a day or two, it really fades from your memory. So, overall, it was a good book, but not good enough to be remembered. I think I liked the story, more than the actual writing of the author.

Author: Cheryl Diamond

Review: Umm.. this book was surprisingly good. I am the type of person who would really not enjoy this kind of book. At first, one would think "Model" is all about glamour and modeling, but you soon find out this is not the case. Cheryl Diamond is not your typical model. Through this book, you find that she is witty, sarcastic, and humorous; everything one would not think a model would be. While reading of her experiences, you find that you are in her own shoes and could relate on so many levels. After I finished this book, I felt the need to read more about Cheryl Diamond and what I found intrigued me. Overall, it was a wonderful book. Title: Maniac Magee

Author: Jerry Spinelli

Review: What a great book! Maniac Magee is not a maniac but he does things that are crazy (maniac). Let me give you a quick summary. When Jeffrey Lionel Magee was little his parents died in an accident, leaving him to live with his uncle and aunt who never got along.S o one evening at his school play he ran away because his uncle and aunt didn't sit together. Now let's change the scenery. One year later,J effery found himself in Two Mills (one part of the town is where whites live and the other is where blacks live). Now this brings me to why they call him Maniac. Well...he challenged the best pitcher in the white side and bunted a frog (real frog). Then in the black side he caught a football with a book in his hand. Plus he untied Cobbles Kno..... Once again I went too far and told you more than you need to know, so stop what you're doing and go to the library and read the book. Trust me, it's a really good book. Well, see you around.

Title: Honey, Baby, Sweetheart

Author: Deb Caletti

Review: Ruby McQueen is a sixteen-year-old high school student who was ordinarly named The Quiet Girl. But soon she finds herself hanging out with thrill-seeking Travis Becker. When she's with Travis, Ruby can be someone that she has never been before. But that's not always a good thing. So Ann, Ruby's mother, takes Ruby to the weekly book club she runs for seniors. But soon they discover that one of the members of the book club is the subject of a love story they are reading. Ann, Ruby, and the rest of the book club take off on a road trip to bring the two lovers back together. I thought this book was one of the best that Deb Caletti has ever written. Deb Caletti captivated me the minute I opened this book.

Title: The Fortunes of Indigo Skye

Author: Deb Caletti

Review: Indigo Skye, an eighteen-year-old, loves her life. She loves her job as a waitress, had an adoring boyfriend, and has a very loving family. Until that all changes once a mysterious customer at the diner that she works at leaves her a 2.5-million-dollar tip. At first she likes her new life, new cars, enormous TVs, and presents for her family and friends. But soon, she becomes too wrapped up in her money and ignores the warnings that money can change people. I thought this book was very good. Deb Caletti tells a tale of rags-to-riches in a way that makes the story very interesting.

Review: Although this book sounds girly and stupid it's a lot more different than you think! When you see this book you might say, "City of Flowers...LAME!" That's what I thought to. I picked it up and started to read it. It has a lot of action in it and is really easy to follow (that is if you read the other 2 books before it but hey I understand it!) IF you're into time traveling adventure and action I highly recommend this book to you.

Title: The 39 Clues: The Maze of Bones (Book 1--39 Clues Series)

Author: Rick Riordan

Review: I loved this book. The suspense was killer. Having some odd extended family, I could easily connect to the book. The odd balls stopping the Cahills, in the search reminded me a lot of my family. The premise of the story is that, Amy and Dan's grandmother, passes, and leaves each of her family with a choice. Take 1 million dollars, or a clue, that if they succed in making to the end of the 39 clues, they will become the most powerful family in history. Amy and Dan wind up taking the clue, and go to Paris, where they discover things about a family member: Ben Franklin!!! The book ends with them planning to go to Vienna, looking for the third clue. The next family member??? Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart!!! The book's story is like none other. This series comes close to eclipsing Twilight, and even Harry Potter!

Review: "The Dating Game" is a book about three girls who get a project for their Interpersonal Human Development class. They decided they are going to prove who was more "sex-crazed," boys or girls. They create a blog and set up all these quizzes to decide what's true. Their first hypothesis is that boys are, but in the end they decide girls are. This book was great. I loved it. Title: Life as We Knew It

Author: Susan Beth Prefer

Review: Life as we knew it is a tantalizing book that will take you into a world, where our everyday necessities are just about gone. When a meteor crashes into the moon and knocks it closer to earth, the world changes literally a split second after. Catastrophe spreads with brutal thunderstorms that shut out electricity and roaring tsunamis that ferociously tear apart the many coasts killing anyone in their path. The death toll rises higher, while Miranda and her family desperatly scramble to make it through these beyond hard times. With the many predicaments that Miranda's family faces, they are forced to stick together. In the end, only the ones with integrity, bravery, courage will live to see the sun peak out from behind that all too familiar moon. This book really made me appreciate my life, because just as soon everything could be gone.

Title: Black Cat

Author: Kentaro Yubuki

Review: Do like action packed books? Well,I do. Black Cat is not a cat that is black. Black Cat was the name of an infamous assassin for a secret organization called Chronos. One day he went his own way and left the organization because of one simple reason...actually two simple reasons. One reason is that his bestfriend [a girl] was a sweeper. A sweeper is a bounty hunter. His best friend's name is Saya. Then he started to hate killing which comes to your second reason. As he started to hate killing he let people he needed to erase go, and then the bosses of the organization got mad and he quit. Wonder what happens to him next well he becomes a sweeper [bounty hunter]. He joins two other people Sven and a 12 year old girl Eve. But that was two years ago, and now there are two bad organizations. One is as you know Chronos and the other is Apostles of the Stars and th........I may have just said too much. Title: ALiCe, i tHiNk

Author: Susan Juby

Review: Alice is a teenager who has been home schooled all of her life, up until now. She decides that she wants to try public high school. The reason she had been home schooled is because she is a little bit weird. On the first day of first grade, she showed up dressed like the hobbit (from the book THE HOBBIT.) Throughout the book, she makes many life goals including a makeover and deciding on a career path. I certainly did not like the book. It was really slow, but I finished it anyway. Maybe I didn't like it because I couldn't relate to it. It just went nowhere. The main plot was that she wanted to complete her life goals list. Some parts were sort of funny, but not worth reading. I would not recommend this book. I also know there is a sequel to it and I'm not interested in reading it either.

I found this book similar to: It reminded me of Pippi Longstocking in a way because Alice had a very quirky character. However, I read Pippi Longstocking and loved it.

Title: Acceleration

Author: Graham McNamee

Review: Acceleration is the story of a Boy named Duncan slaving away at his job at a train station's lost and found, each day more monotonous then the next. But, when Duncan finds the diary of an insane-minded serial killer, his life goes from boredom, to chasing down the author of the diary. The story is fast-paced, exciting, dramatic, and full of mystery and suspense that will make the reader be on the edge of their seat. Some points in the book are a tad slow, but once the reader gets into the book they'll never want to put it down. On the pessimistic side, the story's ending is rushed and leaves too many questions unanswered. It also has a few unecessaty parts. Actually, readers could do without part of the book because it leaves no impact on the final conclusion, which was a tad disappointing, compared to the rest of the book. In my opinion this book could have been a lot shorter. Plot- 7/10 Description-10/10 Length- 2/10 It could have been waaaay shorter Recommended age 13+ Overall Score: 6.. an ok read

Title: Acceleration

Author: Graham McNamee

Review: WELLLLLLL it was an entertaining quick read but when you look back on it and think about it you will realize that there is almost no closure to anything. It doesn't tell if the people were safe, it didn't have the criminal brought to true justice (although he is brought to some), and in the middle of it the author realized that he just lost the plot of his book by having a dead end, he then fixes by making the killer do some stupid and way too obivious things, and gives him a name on the last 2 pages of the book for no reason. If you are just looking for something quick to read and not reflect on by all means pick this book up but if you are one of those people who thinks about the book you've read then this just has to many open spots for you. Review: For Mia, letters and numbers and sounds all have colors for her. For example, the mew of her cat, Mango, has the color of, well, mango. (Hence the name.) To her, this is normal but when her parents find out, they collectively freak out. Mia's parents, like all parents would after finding out their daughters are seeing things they're not, thought she was nuts. She's not. Quite simply, she has a condition that is not harmful nor is it a disability. She has synasthesia. After that discovery, the book primarily deals with coming to terms with Mia's condition. Mia accepting it with joy; and he rfamily supporting her. This book is like an emotional roller coaster. You'll laugh, and cry, and everything in between. Great book.

Maze of Bones is entertaining. The pacing seems to be about right. The characters don't have as much depth as I'd hoped. But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Title: Just One Wish

Author: Janette Rallison

Review: This book was really amazing...it's now one of my new favorites. In 'Just One Wish', Annika is the big sister that will do anything for her little brother, Jeremy, who is trying to beat his cancer. So when she tells him there is a genie and that he can make two wishes, one for his upcoming surgery and one for whatever he wanted, she never guessed that it would involve going to California and searching for Teen Robin Hood. This book had to be one of Janette Rallison's best because as you traveled with Annika to California you felt like you, the reader, was actually there with her as she dodged security guards in search of the celebrity. This book shows that stalking someone can be easy, but trying to grant a wish, especially for someone who thinks that they're going to die, is hard.

I found this book similar to: This book reminds me of 'Fame, Glory and Other Things On My To-Do List' which is also by Janette Rallison. In 'Fame', a movie star's son comes to town and everyone is giving him the special treatment. In 'Just One Wish', Steve Raleigh (the star of the Teen Robin Hood series) is just a normal person with perfectly normal problems at home with his parents. This is just like Jordon in 'Fame, Glory and Other Things On My To-Do List', showed that although he had a celebrity father, that he was still an average teenager.

Title: Hit and Run

Author: Lurlene McDaniel

Review: This book switches to a different persons point of view each chapter, due to the fact the characters have nothing to do with each other, but are related in a very big way. One night a girl, Annalise, was riding home down the mountain roads from her baby sitting job, at approximately 11:30 at night. While at the same time Quin, the all-star senior baseball player, was taking Laurie, a freshman home from a party that they had attended together. While on the way home they believe they hit a deer and send it over the side of the mountain. While Annalise never returned home and was found on a ledge on the side of a mountain and was in a coma. This book has many twists and turns as they all realize what really happened that night, and how it was going to change their lives forever.

Author: Eoin Colfer

Review: Have you read the Artemis Fowl series? If you haven't I strongly recommend you stop whatever you're doing and go to the library to read it. The book I'm doing the review on is the sixth book in the series called The Time Paradox. It is about 15-year-old Artemis Fowl who's mother is sick. The only antidote for this disease is the brain fluid of the silky sifaka lemur of Madagascar. This shouldn't be a problem except that almost all the lemur were killed in a wildfire and the last one living was killed 8 years earlier when Artemis sold it to the Extinctionists. Now Artemis and his traveling companion, Captain Holly Short of the LEP (Lower Elements Police), have to travel back through time in order to save the lemur from the greedy hands of young Artemis Fowl and the Extinctionists. I won't tell you what happens in the end because it will completely ruin it for you if I do. However I will give you one hint, it involves a pixie and plot for revenge (and taking over the wo! rld of course).

Title: Peter & the Starcatchers

Author: Dave Barry & Ridley Pearson

Review: J.M. Barrie was the man who was Peter Pan. He wrote the famous play "Peter Pan" which has been turned into a book and motion pictures. I'd never really expect anyone to do a contiuation of the story of Peter Pan and Neverland until I saw this one book. This book is one out of three in a series by Barry and Pearson. To be honest, I was not the biggest fan. The only orignal characters that were placed were Peter and Smee. The "leading lady" in this story is a girl named Molly. This book unforunatly did not turn out to what I thought it would be. On the other hand... it turned out to be pretty decent. There's pirates and sword-fighting -- that wins me over very easily. :] So overall, it wasn't a bad book, it just wasn't my paticular favorite. However, I do recomend this book for Peter Pan lovers if you want to find out his other misfit adventures...

Title: The Hunger Games

Author: Suzanne Collins

Review: The Hunger Games takes place in a future North America, a nation called Panem. The premise of the story is that the goverment of this nation is located in a place called the Capitol, (what use to be the Colorado Rockies), and is surrounded by Twelve Districts. The Capitol keeps the Districts in line by having them send one boy and one girl to The Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Katniss, the main character, lives in District Twelve, a relativley poor district, and is often very hungry. She knows how to hunt for her food in the woods, and this really helps her in the Games. She is accompinied by a boy named Peeta, the Baker's son, who once risked a beating to give her some bread. Peeta becomes a great help to her in the arena, and they both use their wits to outsmart other competitors, and even the Gamemakers themselves. The Hunger Games is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I really enjoy the culture of the Capitol and this future nation. At the end of this book, the Games do end, but at the very end, after the closing ceremonies are carried out, the author puts, END OF BOOK ONE. I cannot wait to read Book 2, and I am already looking for other items by this author. I loved this book, and I found the charachters charming. This book being the first one I read this summer, I do not want to read anything else, because I do not think anything can compare to a book this good.

I found this book similar to: This book reminded me a lot of The Giver, another superb book by Lois Lowry. In The Giver, the main character, Jonas lives in this community, where he does not have to make any choices because the goverment makes them all for him. The goverment (also known as the commitee) has absolute power. Although this book does not deal at all with survival, the politcal structure is similar to that of The Hunger Games, although both units have their differences.

She was killed in a gas explosion, sending her neither into heaven or hell. She was an in-betweener. She was given one more chance on earth as a spirit to prove herself either evil or good. To prove it she must help an old man who is dying and the one whose house she broke into. To prove herself good or bad she must help the man finish a wish list, which is a list of things he wants to accomplish before he dies. Does Meg help him finish all the tasks? Does she get to prove herself good before time runs up? You'll have to read to find out.

Title: Airman

Author: Eoin Colfer

Review: Suprisingly, even though the plot sounds simple and boring the book is actually very, very, very, very, ...(x1000) good! If I had to make a top 10 book list it would come in second! (The Lightning Thief series being my first). The book is about a boy named Conor Broekhart (a play on words for brokeheart. He is most likely given this name because what he endures breaks his heart, and in the book when his father swore to kill him the next time they met it says his heart broke like his last name.) He is born on a hot air balloon. Because of this he finds interest in science but in particular flying things. His private tutor, Victor, teaches him sword fighting, martial arts, and aeronautics. Later he is falsely accused of murdering the king. He is sent to an island to die. He plans to fly out. For years he plans and plans to make a flying air machine. Will he be successful, or die in the attempt?

I found this book similar to: This book reminded me of Artemis Fowl because both of the boys are very intelligent. They also aren't the most outgoing people, but have managed to get a girlfriend in some way and friends. Also both of their fathers are both very important people. (Conor's dad is the kingdom's general and Artemis Fowl's dad is a very rich criminal mastermind.) Also I noticed that in the beginning of both books the main character doesn't have a lot of personal friends only one which they knew each other from birth. But as the book goes on they get more friends and are more outgoing. Lastly both characters endure a lot of physical work making them more muscular stronger faster and athletic.

Review: I feel that this is a great book for both boys and girls. It has a great plot and shows us how corrupt the government can be. I think that it was boring in some spots but then was very suspensful in others. I feel that the end of the book was not a good ending because it was boring.

I found this book similar to: Romeo and Juliet because of the star-crossed lovers theme and the books by Margaret Peterson Haddix about the government restricting how many children you can have.

Title: Shelf Life: Stories by the Book

Author: Gary Paulsen

Review: This is a great book because it is a collection of short stories by other authors that have to deal with books. The ten stories in the book benefit proliteracy worldwide. This book showed me how books and reading influence everything. I loved all the stories except two. They all had great plots and messages.

Title: First Kids - The True Stories of All the Presidents' Children

Author: Noah McCullough

Review: I really liked this book because I am very interested in American history and this is all about American presidents and their children. It's not really a chapter book which I like but it is still pretty long. It has pictures of presidents and their children plus a story biography on the family and each child. I would reccomend this book because it is great.

Title: The Hunger Games

Author: Suzanne Collins

Review: The Hunger Games by Suzane Collins is a sad, interesting, and anxious book. If you're a person
who enjoys a thrill this book is for you. This book will make you cry, scream, and laugh sometimes too.
The Hunger Games is about a young girl named Katniss who takes her sister's place in these foul games in
a battle to the death. She meets again a boy who saved her life five years ago. She feels in debt to
him, but she can't help him if she wants to go home to her family again. You will enjoy this story, I know I did.

Title: The Secret Identity Of Devon Delaney

Author: Lauren Barnholdt

Review: This book is very good. It's about a girl who lies. Devon's friend which she met at camp is in her school and Devon tells her everything about the school and she lied that Jared is her boyfriend. Lexi was surprised that Devon's boyfriend is popular. So that's basically what the story is about. And that's all I'm going to tell you. If you want to learn more about it then go to the library and check it out.

Title: The 39 Clues, Book One: Maze of Bones

Author: Rick Riordan

Review: This is a good book if you like science fiction books. The book is about siblings named Amy and Dan who's grandmother dies and in her will says that a person can accept one million dollars or the first clue of thirty nine. Once you get thirty nine clues you have world domination. This book is only about the first clue but I was certainly intrigued to read the second one after I finished the first.

Title: Star Wars Episode 1 The Phantom Menace

Author: Patricia C. Wrede Based on the screenplay and story by George Lucas

Review: "A long time ago in a galaxy far,far away..." Wow! This is a book that will take you on an everlasting adventure to billions of miles away! This book is exciting, but sad. Let me give you a preview. When entering a Trade Federation for negotiation, they never knew that they were entering a trap. They who well,...the...Jedi's of course. Master and Padawan. Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Their ship was destroyed after the Trade Federation destroyed it. Once the Jedi's destroyed the Trade Federation's ship, they needed some money for a ship, which they didn't have. On Naboo, the planet...Whoops! I said too much. Well you just have to read the book to find out what's going to happen next. I liked this book because it was accurate, interesting, and best of all fun to read. I just couldn't keep my eyes off this book. I highly recommend this book to you.

I found this book similar to: The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles. Though it didn't have has much fighting like Star Wars, it was at least as adventurous as Star Wars.

Title: Gone

Author: Michael Grant

Review: Honestly, this book was... amazing. I've always looked right past it, even though it is a thick book and sticks out to a person. I really only read it for lack of better material to read, and I'm really glad I did. In "Gone," everyone over the age of 14 suddenly disappears from Perdido Beach, California (or even the world). Sides form and fights ensue between the regular "townies" and the students from a prestigious school known as "The Academy." Older kids run the town, setting up primitive governments. Oh yeah, along with all the chaos, certain kids are developing supernatural powers that put them at an advantage. Overall, it's a very complex, yet good, book. Since I'm a hopeless romantic, I REALLY enjoyed the small, yet powerful (to me, at least) "relationship" going on between two of the main characters in the book. "Gone" HAS to be one of the best books I have ever read and it definitely make smy Top Ten. I cannot wait to read the sequel, "Hunger." I recommend this book to just about anyone, for it satisfies a wide range of audiences.

I found this book similar to: It kind of reminded me of the book "Life As We Knew It" by Susan Pfeffer because in both of these books, the survival skills of people are put to the test under unbelieveable circumstances. In "Gone," the circumstances are that anyone 15 and above just disappear and all those kids must learn and fend for themselves. In "Life As We Knew It," the moon is knocked closer in orbit and causes havoc in more ways than one. Regardless of these differences, "Gone" and "Life As We Knew It"are incredibly similar and both are great books!!

Title: Heaven Looks a Lot Like the Mall

Author: Wendy Mass

Review: This book was great! It was about a girl who takes part in a tragic dodgeball accident during her gym class. In her coma, she visits the mall she had been in so many times before. She receives a bag containing all the items she had ever bought at the mall. Each chapter is a story about an item bought from the mall, where she bought it, and why she bought it. Although each chapter is different, each thing bought from the mall seems to have something to do with the next. This book is a must-read!

Title: Inuyasha

Author: Rumiko Takahashi

Review: Well Inuyasha is a dog demon well a half demon. There is this crystal that gives humans or half demons to become a full fledged demons, which is his dream. As he's doing this he is killing innocent people to find it. Then one day Kagome fell down a well in to Inuyasha's world and when she found Inuyasha he attacked her. Then when she said "sit boy" he fell to the ground so now they work together. Then Inuyasha finally found the jewel then a crow stole it and Kagome took an arrow and shot the bird but the jewel broke in to little parts around the whole world so now they're off to find the jewel. I highly recomed this for manga lovers.

Title: The 39 Clues~Maze of Bones

Author: Rick Riordan

Review: I thought that I wouldn't like this book because it was a mystery,( I don't like mysteries very much)but I was wrong! In the beginning I was a little confused, but as I read on, I understood the story more. I really liked how the two main characters, Amy and Dan, had very different personalities from the rest of their family. It made them seem special and important. I liked how the author showed the scenes without Amy and Dan that were important. Rather than saying meanwhile... to show the scene, he gave the scene an entire chapter. I also enjoyed was how the author gave you clues to figure out the next step. I loved all of the adventure in this book and I hope you will too.

I found this book similar to: The adventure in this book reminded me of the Harry Potter series. It also reminded me of some of the Nancy Drew books. It was a perfect mix. I usually don't read books like this, but I really enjoyed this one.
